On April 26, the King's Commissioner, René Paas, formally opened the Innovation Hub East Groningen (IHOG). The IHOG is a partnership between three companies - Nedmag, Avebe & Hempflax - and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen. The Innovation Hub East Groningen focuses on the future of the eastern part of the Province of Groningen; more innovation and challenging projects, all brought together in an attractive working and living environment.
A joint approach for the northern economy
The Innovation Hub East Groningen focuses on the future of the eastern part of the Province of Groningen; more innovation and challenging projects, all brought together in an attractive working and living environment. Three companies - Avebe, HempFlax and Nedmag - are working towards a joint approach to develop potatoes, hemp and magnesium. All partners of the IHOG strive for the common interest to stimulate the economy in the northern area of The Netherlands.
Challenging projects
Students of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and the University of Groningen will be part of the innovation hub by taking on challenging projects. The focus is on sustainable developments of products with a local approach, with future possibilities for start-ups. The first students will start on recyclable insulation material based on the combination of available raw materials: hemp, potato starch, potato fiber and magnesium. This is just one of the cases that students, together with the scientists and companies, will consider.
